With rising population issues – more social entrepreneurs are the need of the hour

This special day was inspired by the significance of the World’s population reaching around five billion people on July 11, 1987. The theme for World Population Day 2023 is “Imagine a world where all 8 billion of us have a future bursting with promise and potential”. The focus is on – uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock the world’s infinite possibilities.

World Population Day seeks to focus attention on the urgency & importance of population issues. It was established by the then-Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989, an outcome of the interest generated by the Day of Five Billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

This World Population Day is a reminder that we can achieve the prosperous, peaceful and sustainable future envisioned by the ICPD and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, if we harness the power of every human being on the planet. And what will follow? When we unlock the full potential of women & girls, encouraging and nurturing their life desires, and hopes for their families and their careers, we actually galvanize half % of the leadership, ideas, innovation and creativity – to better society.

What is the future of population?

Here are some stats. The UN’s 2022 report projects world population to be 9.7 billion people in 2050, and about 10.3 billion by 2100. The current world population of 7.2 billion is projected to increase by 1 billion over the next 12 years.

What is the impact of population in business?

In a market-oriented economic system, the impact of population size on market demand affects supply and demand and prices. Current market demand reflects the effect of supply and demand in previous periods. Current population size will affect future market demand through prices and supply elasticity.

The problems have also started in all the resources that humans require, and it has already sparked off bothering situations in the most of developed/developing nations. Now the governments are working firmly to solve those issues.

Entrepreneurship and population issues

Today the entrepreneurship shaped in different forms such as – Social Entrepreneurship, Eco Entrepreneurship and so many other shapes. Looking at the various forms of entrepreneurship, it seems one of the possible solutions to the problems caused by the surplus population in the planet. This brings better understanding of entrepreneurship and the importance of it. Already various forms of entrepreneurship are trying to answer the problems caused by the over-population.

Of course, social entrepreneurs are at work in India and we can see how they are changing the face of Urban India.

Cultural diversity and overpopulation are rated as Asia’s many challenges. Home to almost 70% of the world’s population, faced with many major social problems – it is inspiring to see that young entrepreneurs and activists are addressing those issues to change Asia for the better.

But the question remains – are we doing enough to check population issues?
