On November 7th, the world unites to observe Infant Protection Day – a day dedicated to ensuring the safety, growth & development of infants during their most vulnerable year of life. These formative months are crucial for infants, marking the beginning of their physical and cognitive development. Strong parent-child relationships and proper care lay the foundation for their growth.

Infant Protection Day 2023 aims to raise awareness about – safeguarding, promoting & nurturing infants. These tiny individuals are the future citizens, who will contribute to building a prosperous nation. It’s a call to protect the most precious and vulnerable members of our society.

The statistics reveal that there’s much work to be done. In India, the infant mortality rate is a significant concern, with an estimated 25.21 deaths per 1,000 live births, primarily attributed to causes like prematurity, low birth weight, infections & congenital defects.

Malnourishment and lack of access to clean water and proper hygiene also play a role. In response to this, the government has implemented various measures under the National Rural Health Mission to address this issue. These initiatives focus on – home- based newborn care, mother and child protection, training healthcare providers in essential newborn care, child health screening, and integrated management of neonatal and childhood illnesses.

Entrepreneurs, especially women, are stepping forward to contribute to this cause. Organizations like the AnuVriksham Foundation are working diligently to bridge the healthcare gaps and empower women, making them financially independent through entrepreneurship.

They provide support to underprivileged students, orphaned children, and the elderly, giving them hope for a brighter future. To highlight the power of women entrepreneurs in contributing to child welfare, let’s take a look at a few remarkable women who are driving change in the childcare and infant safety sector in India.

Malika Datt Sadani is the Founder and CEO of The Moms Co., pioneering natural and non-toxic baby products, addressing the growing demand for safe and ethical skincare products in India.

Naiyya Saggi, Founder of BabyChakra and Co-Founder of The Good Glamm Group, has created a platform for parenting advice and support, ultimately transforming the parenting landscape in India.

Shalini Ahuja Agarwal, who co-founded Safe Baby in 2011, India’s first professional
child safety company. Her work centers on childproofing homes and schools to prevent accidents, and she champions the cause of work-life balance for women entrepreneurs.

Infant Protection Day is not just a small focus on the vulnerable little ones but a call for collective action, with women entrepreneurs at the forefront – for making a difference in the lives of these precious infants.
