Monaco, synonymous with luxury and opulence, is quietly witnessing the ascension of women in its entrepreneurial realm. The latest insights reveal a promising trend, showcasing a gradual yet steadfast rise of women in business who are involved in pivotal decision-making roles.

Empowering statistics

Breaking down the numbers, the report by Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE) discloses that almost a third of the approximately 13,000 individuals steering boards and strategic positions in Monaco are women. The dynamics are evolving, and the narrative is being shaped by 3,621 women, constituting 27.9%, who are asserting their leadership prowess as of the close of 2021.

Slow & steady ascent

Significantly, the business landscape still bears the imprint of male dominance, but the surge of women entrepreneurs is unmistakable, with a modest yet significant uptick of +0.4% from the preceding year. Monaco’s female business leaders are not just a statistic; but they are trailblazers steering change and embodying the spirit of progress.

Here’s presenting some enterprising women entrepreneurs from Monaco.

> Tatiana Casiraghi, Co-Founder, Muzungu Sisters

Tatiana is among the top three billionaires in Monaco and among the five richest women in Europe, according to European CEO magazine. Her fortune is currently estimated at $1.9 billion. Wife of Andrea Casiraghi, she inherited her grandfather’s shares in the brewing company SAB Miller, which is now part of Anheuser-Busch. She is also Co-founder of the fashion brand Muzungu Sisters, an online service offers handmade clothing and accessories, produced by seventeen different artisan communities on a fair-trade basis.

> Lily Safra, Head, Edmond J. Safra Foundation

Lily Safra lives in Monaco and has been actively engaged in charity for many years. She is the widow of Jewish banker Edmond Safra, who founded several charitable organizations. And is on Forbes’ list of billionaires, with a fortune estimated at $1.3 billion. She continued his work, becoming Head of the Edmond J. Safra Foundation. The Foundation supports medical research and provides humanitarian aid. Lily Safra supports the American Red Cross, but her activity isn’t limited to simple donations. She also established several research centres at Harvard, Hebrew University and the University of Haifa. Through the participation of Lily Safra, the Claude Pompidou Institute for Alzheimer’s Disease in Nice opened its doors in 2014.

> Hind Rafik Hariri, Founder & Artistic Director, Hind Rafik Hariri (HRH)

Hind Rafik Hariri is daughter of Lebanese businessman and politician Rafik Hariri, who was a Lebanese business tycoon and the Prime Minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2000 until his resignation in 2004. In 2008, Forbes magazine listed her as one of the world’s youngest billionaires with net worth US$1.1 billion.

She is a Founder and Artistic Director of Monaco-based jewellery brand HRH (Hind Rafik Hariri). Hind’s collections are inspired by contemporary women who live in the now and reinvent traditions with an innovative spirit.

> Christina Green, Co-Founder of Green & Mingarelli Design

Christina Green is the sole shareholder in the family company Taveta, which owns brands such as Topshop, Burton and Dorothy Perkins. She is the wife of British retail magnate Philip Green. Before marriage, she had her own fashion boutique in London.

Tina Green is a Co-founder of Green & Mingarelli Design, a company for the design of yachts, private jets and apartment interiors in London and Monaco. Today, they live in Monaco, where they moved in 1998.

> Monika Bacardi, Co-Founder of AMBI Group

Monika Gomez del Campo Bacardi, Lady of Bayfield Hall, known as Monika Bacardi, was born in Italy. She is considered to be one of the most influential businesswomen in the arts field. She wears many hats .She is the widow of Luis Adalbert Facundo Gomez del Campo Bacardi, who was a descendant of the Bacardi rum fortune. She is a cofounder of AMBI Group, headquartered in Rome. Plus she is relatively new in film financing, but has already attracted projects with top Hollywood stars. Besides, she is actively involved in several causes and she undertakes gestures of solidarity to raise funds and awareness in favour of dozens of charitable
organizations in Monaco, France, Italy and other countries.

> Ekaterina Dorfman, Director, Caroli Group Real Estate

A native of St. Petersburg, Ekaterina Dorfman has been living in Monaco since 2010. She has been the Director of Caroli Group Real Estate, a branch of the largest construction company in Monaco.

Since 2012, Ekaterina heads the company in residential and commercial real estate development; and the company provides a full range of property search services, project implementation from conceptual solution development and design to construction and operation of the projects.
