In the realm of social justice, two powerful principles stand tall – representation and inspiration. These tenets are at the heart of ‘Women’s Entrepreneurship Day,’ which is observed on November 19. This day serves as a global recognition of the remarkable contributions of women entrepreneurs, their inspiring journeys, and the impact they let loose in the world.

Initiated in 2014, Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of women worldwide. Tracing back, it was founded by Wendy Diamond, an entrepreneur with a passion for supporting microcredit initiatives for low-income women, WED aims to ignite a network of women who are leaders, innovators &entrepreneurs. It is a day dedicated to driving economic expansion, raising awareness about the challenges faced by millions of women in poverty, and inspiring others to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Over the years, WED has evolved into an international observance, celebrated in 144 countries, and also features in events at the United Nations.

Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is more than a celebration; it is a call to action. It puts the spotlight the groundbreaking work done by women as entrepreneurs at all levels, and serves as a catalyst for others to follow suit. The day is a collective recognition of the transformative power wielded by women in diverse fields, once considered beyond their reach.

This occasion is an opportunity to reflect on the inspiring stories of many enterprising women entrepreneurs who exemplify strength, resilience and innovation. These women have been shattering barriers, challenging societal norms, and paving the way for others in the business world. Their individual journeys actually showcase the essence of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day – empowering brilliance, fostering determination, and inspiring the next generation of women leaders and entrepreneurs.

So, on this Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, let’s celebrate the indomitable spirit of women entrepreneurs and recognize their invaluable contributions to the global business landscape. And, as we honour their achievements, let’s also reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every woman has the opportunity to pursue and achieve her entrepreneurial dreams, however challenging the environment may be.
