What is creativity? Creativity is the ability to develop new ideas and to discover new ways of looking at problems and opportunities. And, what is innovation? Innovation is the ability to apply creative solutions to problems and opportunities –  to enhance the lives of people or to enrich society.

When there is a day set aside for putting the spotlight on creativity and innovation, without a question, businesses can check out the importance of these factors in their success stories.

On April 27, 2017, the United Nations resolved to include World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21 as a Day of Observance to encourage people to use creativity in problem-solving for all issues, and 2018 marked the first year the UN observed WCID.

World Creativity and Innovation Day, according  to UN, opens up opportunities for various options like – to consider and modify ideas before buying into them;  to appreciate perspectives and approaches different from ones we already use; to stretch beyond your knowledge; learn from and have new experiences: get outside your comfort zone; to create new combinations to meet the 2030 Global Goals; feed and further develop your curiosities; connect with new people; apply new thinking to technology or announce a new startup or launch an education campaign or consider ways to code for sustainability.

There is a new momentum on #WCID, for the world – to accept the fact that innovation is essential for harnessing the economic potential of nations. Innovation, creativity and mass entrepreneurship can provide new momentum for economic growth and job creation. It can expand opportunities for everyone, including women. It can provide solutions to some of the most pressing problems such as poverty eradication and the elimination of hunger.

Today, we can say that there is a ‘creative economy’ – which includes audiovisual products, design, new media, services like cab aggregrators, hotel and room aggregrators and so on. It is  a highly transformative sector of the world economy in terms of income generation, job creation and export earnings.
