June 8 is National Best Friends Day, to appreciate your closest and dearest friend. But the relationship between best friends may not often be peaceful; it can be fierce and can withstand disruptions too. So, whether we’ve known them all our lives or they are recently acquired, best friends make tough times bearable, fun times memorable, and memorable times priceless. And if you’re lucky enough to have a BFF who’s been your unpaid therapist, cheerleader, devil’s advocate, and after-hours business advisor, then take a break – be thankful and tag her right now.

Because here’s the truth: Best friends are the wild, wonderful who hold your life, and sometimes your business plan – all together. They’re the ones who know when to hype you up and when to drag you off the ledge. They celebrate your wins like they’re collecting the medal, and they mourn your losses like your spreadsheet crashed!!

Best Friends = Instant Therapy, Lifetime Treasure

Whether you’re co-creating dreams or just co-ordering dessert, the bond between best friends is pure ‘gold’ – unbreakable, unfiltered & often hilariously ‘unprofessional’ in the best way.

And for women entrepreneurs, best friends aren’t just feel-good companions – they’re your strategy team, brand stylists, accountability coaches & emotional ‘espresso’ shots. Q. What’s the best piece of advice a friend gave you that changed the course of your business or mindset?

Shormishtha Ghosh, Founder MD, In Tandem Global Consulting (ITGC) Pvt Ltd –“The best piece of advice my friend gave me, in my entrepreneurial journey, was to trust my own self more than anything else. In early days of my business I had too many contradictory and confusing opinions and suggestions around me. I was unable to take the right decisions as I was trying to take everyone along. However, during a conversation with a friend, it drew on me that I can do without all the people pulling me down. So, I took a few tough calls and let people go. I only then realized how much my business needed it. As we turned EBITDA positive just a few months later.”

Pragati Srivastava, Founder & CEO, Air Bharath – “A friend once told me, ‘Your time and expertise are valuable, don’t give them away for free.’ This advice was a game-changer for me. I realized that I had been undervaluing my services and undermining my worth. From then on, I made a conscious effort to charge for my expertise and the value I bring to the table, though it was difficult for me in the beginning. This shift in mindset not only helped me establish a more sustainable business model but also earned me the respect of my clients, who appreciate the quality and professionalism I offer. Also, I learnt one of the best business lessons.”

Q. What role has friendship played in sustaining you through the toughest moments of your entrepreneurial journey

  • Sangeeta Murthi Sahgal, Co-Founder Diversity Dialogs – “Friendship along with a shared vision & values are the foundation of Diversity Dialogs, a firm I co-founded with my friend of decades. Friendship has enabled us, Rosita and I, to challenge each other to articulate and activate innovative and impactful ideas and programs. We can passionately and freely agree and disagree with each other till we reach a conclusion that we can both support vs “agreeing to disagree”. Friendship and respect is an anchor that enables us to support each other through the ups and downs of our entrepreneurial journey – in victories and when things feel overwhelming.

I believe that our friendship has only grown stronger – we have shared more stories and experiences than before. We lifted each other up when we were down. We have celebrated each other’s individual successes equally as our combined triumphs.”

Q. If your friendship were a brand, what would its tagline be — and who would be the CFO of the chaos?

  • Usha Jha, Founder, Petal Crafts – “Best Friends: Since Forever. For Whatever.”

Q. What role has friendship played in sustaining you through the toughest moments of your entrepreneurial journey? What role has friendship played in sustaining you through the toughest moments of your entrepreneurial journey?

  • Ruby Sinha, Founder, sheatwork – “Making the leap from a stable job to entrepreneurship, or diving into it after a break, can feel like a long and lonely path. Yet, it’s also an eye-opener. You start to see who your real friends and supporters are—those who ride the emotional waves with you through the ups and downs of this journey. These are the individuals who not only cheer for your vision but also provide genuine feedback, help you celebrate victories, and offer guidance through failures. They become your strongest allies in your entrepreneurial adventure. You come to realize that their support is unwavering, no matter the circumstances, and that belief fuels your determination to push forward, no matter what challenges arise.”
