PS I love is all about a young girl, who becomes a widow by a cruel turn of fate, and discovers that her late husband has left her 10 messages intended to help ease her pain and start a new life.
The story line of PS I Love You is based on the best-selling novel by Cecelia Ahern, and it starts out on a country road in Ireland set ten years before the narrative opens. It focuses on how the story started on a love-at-first-sight setting for Holly, a lost young tourist (Hilary Swank), and Gerry, a charming local lad (Gerard Butler). Holly’s formidable mother, (Kathy Bates), disapproved of the couple, concerned that her spirited daughter was too young for marriage. In the years that pass by, the once fearless Holly becomes unsure of her own identity. Then tragedy strikes and Gerry dies with a brain tumor and it leaves Holly a widow, when is about to hit her thirtieth birthday. She locks herself up in her Manhattan apartment and her family and friends are concerned. After weeks of being holed up, watching old movies, a birthday cake turns up. Then a tape recorded message from Gerry mysteriously arrives, marking the beginning of a series of letters instructing her to perform unusual requests.
We hear Gerry’s voice as it proceeds to tell her to get out and “celebrate herself”. In the weeks and months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the same way – P.S. I Love You. Holly’s mother and best friends begin to worry that Gerry’s letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but in fact, each letter is pushing her further into a new future. With Gerry’s words as her guide, Holly embarks on a journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life.
The message in the film, addresses all entrepreneurs, who should keep in mind, certain things while selecting their life partners. They should acquaint themselves with these five qualities. They’re what you may want to prioritize when looking for a love partner:
- Confidence
You’re busy. You spend a lot of time giving to others; giving to employees, investors, customers, family, friends…you name it. There’s just not any “ÿou” time! So, when it comes to a romantic relationship, you need to be with someone who’s already filled up their own cup, meaning they don’t necessarily need you to spend additional time or energy pouring confidence into them.
- Independence
You need someone who’s independent, and isn’t waiting around for you to do things. Friends, hobbies, aspirations…all of these are things your romantic partner should have. Because the reality is, they’ll be likely to wait a long time, as you’re investing most of your waking hours in trying to get your business to take off!
- Patience
When you’re just starting out, missed deadlines, all-nighters are a norm for you, especially as you don’t yet have a team of people around for support. It’s vital that your romantic partner be patient and understanding of your situation and be by your side, as your business develops.
- Supportiveness
Entrepreneurs would rather work 80 hours for themselves than 40 hours for someone else. This quote really, is true. But what it doesn’t highlight is the fact that those 80 hours aren’t always going to feel good. A lot of pain, stress, and failure come with the territory, so you’re going to want someone in your corner who supports you not only through the good times, but the bad times too.
- Grounded
As a founder, it’s easy to get caught up in all the hype, but at the end of the day, there’s more to life, and it’s important that you surround yourself with people who keep you grounded.
