Today, with global issues dominating headlines, it’s loud and clear that the future of humanity and our planet rests in the hands of young people. Ensuring that the young have the skills to address today’s challenges and create a more peaceful tomorrow – is crucial. This year’s World Youth Skills Day highlights the importance of skills for peace & sustainable development.

World Youth Skills Day, observed annually on July 15th, is an initiative by the International Labour Organization (ILO) – to emphasize the significance of skill development for youth. The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of equipping young people with the skills needed for – employment, entrepreneurship & social well-being.

The theme for 2024 is – “Linking Data to Action: Values towards Employment- Centered Education and Human Capital Development”. This day targets raising awareness about the importance of developing skills among young people, emphasizing the significance of data-driven education and human capital development to enhance employment opportunities and reduce poverty.

Skills for a Sustainable Future

The day aims to put the spotlight on the importance of equipping young people with the necessary skills – to navigate the rapidly changing world of work. It also provides an opportunity to recognize the efforts of organizations and individuals, working to promote youth skills development and employment. Overall, World Youth Skills Day is a critical event that not only promotes the potential of young people, but also empowers them to achieve their goals.
