The Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from India on Tuesday talked about the country’s efforts towards women empowerment and gender equality at the 54th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Speaking during the UN’s Annual discussion on the ‘Integration of a Gender Perspective’, Parmita Sharma, social activist and founder of Akshar Foundation, said they believe the goals of poverty eradication and gender equality go hand in hand. She said that Akshar’s model school of poverty eradication measures to increase literacy and employability among underprivileged girls, two of the main factors that contribute to gender discrimination in underprivileged communities.
