Being locked in at home, has given the opportunity to many to turn their creative pursuits into a business.
As India went into a lockdown-mode in March, this opened up a new path for 24-year-old Bengaluru-based fashion designer Samriddhi Balasubramaniam. She began investing more time in her hobby – handcrafting jewellery from polymer clay. As luck would have it, COVID disruptions affected the retail industry, and very unfortunately, she got laid off from her regular job. However, this proved to be a blessing in disguise! To distract herself from worries, she dived into moulding earrings, baking them and promoting them on social media. What followed was – her unique product – the earrings caught attention on Instagram and soon, she began getting enquiries. That’s when the idea struck – of converting her pastime into a full-fledged business venture.
