Atal Innovation Mission by NITI Aayog drives innovation and entrepreneurship in India

NITI Aayog’s flagship initiative, the Atal Innovation Mission, has made huge strides in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, all over India. The establishment of the initiative was approved by a cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 24th February, 2016.

The initiative is designed to help establish Atal Tinkering Laboratories in educational institutions, across the country, in order to encourage the growth of curiosity, creativity, and imagination, in today’s youth, while also promoting the development of a design mindset and computational thinking.

Each of these labs are built to be specialised innovation workspaces, spreading over 1200-1500 square feet, equipped with 3D Printers, Robotics, and other advanced technologies, by means of a 20 lakh rupees grant, issued by the government.

The facilities will teach students from 6th grade to 12th grade to use these technologies for the development of innovative solutions with practical applications. The Atal Innovation Mission is creating state-of-the-art incubators at universities, NGOs, SMEs, and Corporate industries, in order to help sustainable startups find success and growth.

To this end, the initiative has also announced that a grant of up to Rs 10 crore would be provided to the selected applicants, to help them set up greenfield incubators or scale-up already existing ones.
