In a concerning development, more than half of women entrepreneurs across India’s tier 2 and tier 3 towns still require the assistance of male family members to access formal credit, highlighting entrenched structural barriers despite their growing aspirations, according to a report by Tide India. The report revealed that 52 per cent of surveyed women business owners remain dependent on male relatives to secure loans, reflecting a systemic bias embedded in India’s credit ecosystem.
