Ahmedabad women run pay and park facilities, get empowered

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken a big step for the empowerment of underprivileged women by allowing them to operate pay and park facilities in several locations of the city.

According to a report in the news agency ANI, a self-group called Sakhi Sangh is involved in the initiative and women from the group operate the pay and park facilities, handing over parking tickets to vehicle owners and earning money in return. The money helps the women to meet their needs.

Indra, one of the women managing the pay and park facilities, said that she is able to support her family with the money earned. She revealed that she has now been able to pay for her son’s education and has also been saving for her daughter’s wedding.

The initiative has proved to be a significant stimulus for the empowerment of the women of Sakhi Sangh. It is also a fine advertisement of a simple, yet innovative government measure that can go a long way in empowering women.
