In today’s world, ensuring personal safety is a significant concern for women. Hence, tech-enabled safety solutions are crucial for women’s security, providing tools for immediate help and prevention of potential harm. In line with this thought, we have with us today, Angel Diana Sweetline, a young entrepreneur with a passion for creating a safe environment for women. She recognised the need to ensure women’s safety and developed a unique solution, SheSafe. What’s really impressive about her is her desire to achieve, remain resilient in the face of challenges, and empower women to navigate public spaces with greater confidence.
Q: When did you get the Big Idea to become independent and start a tech-enabled, purposeful platform for women?
The idea for SheSafe was born in the unsafe, not-so-rural, and not-so-urban streets of Erumaiyur, Kanchipuram. That’s where I live, a place with no proper roads, zero streetlights, and constant fear of what might happen after dark. I realized early on that safety shouldn’t be a privilege; it should be a basic right. That frustration turned into determination. I knew I wanted to build a solution for women, by a woman. That was the turning point, the moment I decided not to wait for change, but to become the one creating and driving it.
Q: How easy or tough has it been for you, as a woman entrepreneur, to set up and promote your business?
Honestly, it hasn’t been easy, especially coming from a non-technical background and starting young. There were days filled with self-doubt, financial constraints, and constant mockery from people who don’t believe in change. However, each “no” only pushed me harder. I bootstrapped, taught myself, found the right aid, built a prototype from scratch, and pitched tirelessly until I got the recognition that made me “SEEN”.
Being a woman entrepreneur requires a lot of confidence, emotional balance, and resilience, as people around you are always ready to look down upon you. I’m happy to say that I’ve grown stronger with each challenge.
Q: How has the support of friends and family played a role in your being a successful entrepreneur?
In my entrepreneurship journey, there were times when I’ve felt alone, but I realized that it’s temporary. My parents were surprised as they were only expecting me to go for a 9-5 job after graduation, but they never failed to support me emotionally, though not financially.
My best friend, who has a technical background, was my biggest support; he was with me through everything, from developing the idea from scratch, late-night pitch rehearsals, to building the actual prototype. I will always be grateful for all their support and motivation.
Q: What does the road ahead look like from where you stand today?
It’s both exciting and overwhelming. We’ve been recognized as “National Champions” in State Bank of India’s College Youth Ideathon (SBI CYI) at IIT Delhi by top innovation platforms: ThinkStartup and MEPSC (Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council) recently. But the mission is far from over.
The future holds the launch of the actual product, expansion, newer tech-driven solutions, and scaling to reach even the remotest corners of India. I see “SheSafe” as a mission to build safer communities for women and children, and not as some corporation that wants to sell its products. I’m just getting started, and I’ll work hard until my dream transforms into reality.
Q: Any words of wisdom for budding women entrepreneurs?
Don’t wait to feel “ready.” Start with what you have, even if it’s just an idea, but make sure you are passionate about it! Never let anyone tell you that you’re too young, too inexperienced, or that startups aren’t for women. There will always be people around to tell you that it won’t work, that you are not enough, and that you will not succeed. Never listen to them, instead, surround yourself with people who uplift you, also, stay open to learning, be consistent, and above all, believe in yourself.
Your gender or background doesn’t define your limit; your courage does.
Take all that you have and use it for designing your success in your style!
